Suddenly, my husband was getting flooded with calls from people wanting him to do the exact projects we were sharing online. They didn’t want to follow the DIY guide; they just wanted someone they trusted to do it for them. Almost overnight, he went from an exhausted employee to a business owner.
As the business grew, I saw his desire to push past small handyman jobs and do more. The moment he got licensed, I used my marketing background to completely rebrand the business for growth. Today, he isn’t just doing odd jobs; he is building whole, custom homes from the ground up. Having walked that exact path, my mission now is to help other local tradespeople scale their businesses the exact same way.

While helping my husband build his business, I spent five years working in marketing for a national home builder. That role gave me a rare, microscopic look at the entire industry. Because I was privy to every stage of the building process, I learned the exact psychology behind why a buyer chooses one contractor over another. I sat in on the tough conversations and saw firsthand how unexpected field problems and homeowner warranty claims were handled.
However, so much about what I know about the tradesman’s small businesses was learned at our kitchen table, looking over bids late at night with my husband. I have always been, and continue to be, his primary sounding board for navigating clients, whether he’s dealing with a local homeowner or working with a massive commercial business.
Through his work on the job site, I kept hearing the same story about the smaller subcontractors he worked alongside. These business owners wished they could have a stronger marketing strategy, but when you are watching your margins under a microscope just to keep food on the table for your family, the budget for a high-priced agency or in-house marketing hire simply isn’t there.
